Integrated Treatment Technologies

One Engineered Source. Multiple Proven Technologies.

Mercer is known for building best-in-class oil–water separation systems. However if contaminants are not able to rise or settle…there is no gravity to enhance.

That’s where Mercer’s role expands.

Today, Mercer serves as a systems integrator—bringing together complementary, best-in-class treatment technologies to solve problems that extend beyond gravity separation alone. Rather than forcing clients to manage multiple vendors, conflicting performance claims, or mismatched equipment, Mercer evaluates, selects, and integrates proven technologies into a single engineered solution.

One Engineered Source. Multiple Proven Technologies.

The Mercer View of Treatment Reality

Every water treatment problem comes down to a simple truth:

  • Some contaminants are best caught via absorption, adsorption, or filtration.
  • Others must be cracked, conditioned, or transformed before enhanced gravity separation works

In real facilities, contaminants don’t behave politely. Some hydrocarbons that don’t readily rise need to can be caught. Others must be cracked, cracked or conditioned (freed)to be freed , or altered before they can be removed. The same can be said for solids held in suspension. In other instances catching these constituents inline by ad/ab-sorbtion or filtration may be a better alternative

Many systems fail because they assume everything behaves like free oil. It doesn’t.

Mercer designs systems that recognize this reality. When gravity separation alone is not enough, we selectively integrate partner technologies that either:

  • Condition the water so separation becomes effective, or
  • Address contaminants that separation cannot reliably remove on its own

The goal is not more equipment.
The goal is the right physics applied at the right point in the treatment train.

Why Mercer as the Integrator

Single Point of Accountability

Mercer remains responsible for how the system performs. We do not pass responsibility between vendors or hide behind supplier claims.

Engineered Compatibility

Partner technologies are integrated hydraulically, mechanically, and operationally into Mercer systems—not bolted on as afterthoughts.

Proven, Not Experimental

We partner only with technologies that have demonstrated real-world performance in demanding industrial environments.

Flexible Commercial Models

Depending on the application, Mercer may supply partner technologies as OEM equipment, integrate them into packaged systems, or coordinate referral arrangements—always based on what best serves the client.

Technology Partners

Featured Technology Partners

Bubble-Break™Nano Demulsification™

Chemical-free nanobubble conditioning technology

Mercer utilizes a new chemical-free nanobubble conditioning technology that unlocks trapped oil, breaks stubborn emulsions, eliminates sulfides, and enhances oil recovery (EOR)—while removing the need for flotation systems and continuous chemical dosing in the toughest wastewater streams.

Conditioners

Performance Enhancing Polymer

A non-ionic surfactant-flocculant that breaks oil–water emulsions, releases hydrocarbons from fine solids, and binds particles into fast-settling flocs, enabling efficient free-oil separation and solids removal inside Mercer’s separators.

Selective Hydrocarbon Absorption Media

Polymer absorbent bead polishing

Mercer embeds oil-selective polymer absorbent bead polishing directly inside its gravity separators to capture the hydrocarbons that won’t float—unlocking a new level of oil removal without chemicals, flotation, or added equipment.

Catchers

High-efficiency, self-cleaning solids separation

A pneumatically assisted, disc-stack filtration system engineered specifically for oil-laden wastewater, using proprietary oleophobic polymers and high-energy air-water backflushing to deliver sustained uptime where conventional disc filters fail.

Not Every Site Needs More Technology

Many facilities don’t need another piece of equipment.
They need to understand whether they need to crack it, condition it, or catch it.That’s why every Mercer engagement starts with evaluation and testing. If a partner technology will not provide measurable value, we say so—before you spend a dollar.Free testing. Clear answers. Engineered accountability.
